‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Leaves Viewers in Awe After Solving $89,000 Puzzle

Former local news anchor Heather Foster proved she hasn’t lost her knack for captivating an audience—though this time, she did it on the set of Wheel of Fortune. The retired broadcaster, who left her career to focus on raising her children, scored an impressive cash payout and a dream getaway during the hit game show’s Thursday, February 20 broadcast.

Hailing from Wisconsin, Foster traded her usual days of touring libraries and museums with her children for a shot at massive winnings. Whenever she manages to steal a rare moment of tranquility, she admits her favorite activity is sitting in her parked car in absolute silence—a highly relatable habit for parents everywhere. Before devoting herself entirely to her family, Foster was a familiar face on NewsChannel 7, anchoring broadcasts from 2015 to 2021.

At the start of the game, luck did not seem to be on her side. Her competitors—Babatunde Oyelowo, an anime and gaming enthusiast who grew up in Japan, and Eric Dotterer, a New York-based globetrotting marathoner—dominated the early rounds. The two men rapidly solved the first pair of puzzles, leaving Foster trailing in their wake.

Yet, as is customary on Wheel of Fortune, the tide soon turned. During the third puzzle, Oyelowo and Dotterer both stumbled—one guessed incorrect letters, while the other landed on the dreaded “Lose a Turn” wedge. Seizing the opportunity, Foster correctly identified the missing letters and solved the phrase “Life-Changing Experience,” putting $3,700 in her bank.

With the momentum finally shifting her way, the next puzzle—a “Before & After” challenge—delivered even more success. Foster managed to land on both the highly coveted $3,500 wedge and the massive $10,000 wedge, all while her two opponents fell victim to “Bankrupt” spins. She assertively solved the board with “Wedding Ring Toss,” skyrocketing her total earnings to $19,550.

“I adore this place,” Foster laughed, a sentiment that host Ryan Seacrest happily agreed with.

Dotterer bounced back in the subsequent round, solving the puzzle to secure a vacation and elevating his bankroll to $19,324. Oyelowo, on the other hand, remained at $1,000. Throughout the Triple Toss-Up, Dotterer scooped up an extra $4,000, while Foster snagged $2,000, temporarily granting Dotterer the lead.

But Foster was far from finished. During the final regular round, she shined once again, completing the puzzle to win an additional $8,500. This pushed her grand total to $30,050 and guaranteed her a spot in the Bonus Round. Dotterer finished his run with $23,324, and Oyelowo concluded his game with $1,000.

In the Bonus Round, Foster selected the “What Are You Doing?” category and was given the standard starting letters of R, S, T, L, N, and E. For her personal picks, she went with M, D, G, and O. Once the letters populated, the screen displayed: “R_DG_NG T_E G _.”

Even before Seacrest could officially start the clock, Foster confidently shouted, “Bridging the gap.” She was absolutely correct! That flawless guess added a $40,000 bonus to her prize pool, boosting her ultimate winnings to a staggering $89,942, as well as a spectacular cruise to Iceland.

Overwhelmed with joy, Foster wrapped Seacrest in a warm hug as he laughed and told her, “Congratulations!” It was an undeniably life-changing outcome.
