Riley Reid said there is a simple way to avoid ruining the mood
Riley Reid has shared the one thing that stands out to her when it comes to bedroom mistakes, and it is not as wild as some people might expect.
As one of the biggest names in the adult entertainment industry, Reid has seen enough to know what can make or break the mood. She is reported to be worth around $14 million, after building a long career in adult films.
Reid, whose real name is Ashley Matthews, started her career at 19. She has since won a number of major awards and has been inducted into both the X-Rated Critics Organisation Hall of Fame and the AVN Hall of Fame.
During an episode of the Stiff Socks Podcast, the 34-year-old opened up about how quickly a man can ruin the mood in the bedroom.
Thankfully, the issue she pointed out has a very simple fix. It does not require confidence coaching, special technique, or a huge amount of effort.
In fact, it is the kind of thing most people can sort out in about two minutes before things get intimate.

“I hate it when a guy doesn’t brush his teeth, he wants to kiss and he’s got some rank a** breath,” Reid stated during the September 2024 interview.
“That s**t kills the mood.”
So before anyone starts getting carried away, it might be worth checking your breath first. A quick trip to the bathroom could save the whole mood from collapsing before it even gets going.
Reid also said this is one of the reasons she is not a big fan of morning sex. After a full night of sleep, breath can be at its worst, especially for anyone who sleeps with their mouth open.
“It’s disgusting,” she added.
So if morning intimacy is on the cards, brushing your teeth first is probably the safest move. It is not exactly romantic advice, but it may be some of the most useful.
This is not the first time Reid has spoken openly about her life as an adult performer. She has also been clear that she does not want to glamorize the industry or pretend it is easy.
In a now-deleted video from 2020, Reid said she would not encourage people to build a career in X-rated films because of the strain it can place on personal life.
She explained that the work can affect dating, family relationships, and intimacy in ways that people may not understand from the outside.

“A lot of times when people ask me if they should do porn, I tell them no,” she revealed.
“I tell them that it makes life really hard, it makes dating really hard, it makes your family life really hard, it makes intimacy hard.”
Reid said the impact of her work reached into her everyday life. One painful moment with a former partner even made her think about leaving the industry altogether.
Speaking to Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast in 2018, she recalled how one of her ex-partners refused to touch her when she came home from work.
“He made me feel like maybe I should quit and stuff… he didn’t want to kiss me when I came home from work,” she told the podcaster.
“So, like, [it] made me feel like a disgusting person.”
Reid later came to understand that she was not actually disgusting, but the experience was still “horrible” and clearly stayed with her.
Moments like that show why she has spoken so honestly about the emotional cost of adult work, even while acknowledging the success it brought her.
She has since found love, and married Latvian freerunner Pasha Petkuns in 2021.
What have other adult stars said about how their career affects their relationships?
Mia Khalifa

Mia Khalifa says her career left her with trust issuesInstagram/miakhalifa
Mia Khalifa, who became infamous in 2014 after filming a sexual scene in a hijab, said in an interview last year that she has only had two relationships in 10 years.
Her comments showed how difficult dating can become when a person is known for a public adult scene, even long after leaving the industry.
She told The Adam Friedland Show: “I can’t even like mentally get past somebody wanting to be with me for the novelty or for that reason [because of her famous porn scene]. So, I’d much rather just be alone.”
Sky Bri

Sky Bri has also spoken about how complicated dating can feel when so much of a person’s public image is tied to adult content and social media.
The star told Mommy Daddy Talk: “I’m actually going to be single for the rest of my life.”
“Actually, OK – not for the rest of my life. But I think for the rest of my social-media-influencer adult internet persona life.”
“Because it’s just too much. And if I were ever to get into another relationship, it would be kept completely private.”
“I will never post a guy or have anything public, because I don’t want public opinion.”
Lana Rhoades
Lana Rhoades has also warned young women about going into porn. In an X post back in 2020, she wrote: “Your bf’s will tell you that know [sic] one else will ever love you bc of your past, and it [will] be held over you everyday of your life.”

Her warning echoed the same wider point made by Reid, Khalifa, and Sky Bri: the work can follow people into their private lives long after the cameras stop rolling.
For some adult stars, the hardest part is not the job itself, but the way partners, families, and strangers treat them because of it.
Reid’s bedroom advice may have started with something as simple as bad breath, but the wider conversation points to how blunt she has been about sex, dating, and personal boundaries.
Whether she is talking about hygiene or the emotional fallout of adult work, she tends to keep the message direct. Some things can be fixed with a toothbrush, while others take a lot more care and understanding.
