
The esteemed actor, widely recognized for his memorable role in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, has tragically passed away at 82 years old.
Star Wars icon Michael Pennington has died at the age of 82.
According to a report by The Telegraph, the seasoned star of stage and screen—most famous for portraying the Imperial officer Moff Jerjerrod in Return of the Jedi—died this past Sunday.
At this time, his official cause of death has not been revealed.
Pennington boasted an impressive resume beyond the sci-fi galaxy. His film credits include playing Laertes opposite Anthony Hopkins in 1969’s Hamlet, and taking on the role of former Labour Party leader Michael Foot alongside Meryl Streep in 2011’s The Iron Lady. On television, he made appearances in hit series like The Bill, The Tudors, and Father Brown, as well as the television movie The Return of Sherlock Holmes.

Lesley Duff, his agent, shared with The Sun that the actor had been residing at Denville Hall, a well-known care facility for retired entertainment professionals, during his final years.
Miriam Margolyes, a close friend and fellow acting veteran, verified the heartbreaking news via a heartfelt post on her social media.
The Harry Potter star emotionally wrote: “Michael Pennington has died.
“An old friend, from Cambridge days, a very fine actor, brilliant, wise, clear. I am sad beyond measure.
“Bless your dear memory. Old chum.”
In response to a follower’s comment on her post, the actress clarified: “It happened v recently at Denville Hall. I am sad to confirm.”


Heartbroken fans quickly shared their condolences online. One devastated supporter commented: “May the force be with you brother.”
Another honored the actor as a “legend,” simply stating: “May he rest in peace.”
The actor’s passing occurs just a year after the death of his partner, author Prue Skene, who died at the age of 81.

In addition to his on-screen achievements, Michael was a highly esteemed powerhouse in the theater community, starring in countless Shakespearean plays.
In 1986, he co-founded the English Shakespeare Company, where he served as the joint artistic director until 1992.
Furthermore, he held the prestigious title of associate artist with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
On a personal note, Pennington wed actress Katharine Barker in 1964, and the couple welcomed a son, Mark, before ultimately divorcing in 1967.
